Printed Matter’s 2nd LA Art Book Fair: Where the renegades, contrarians, visionaries and idealists live!

Events

January 27th, 2014

This is where the renegades, the contrarians, the visionaries, the idealists live—the artists who take on a more intimate, small-scale, sometimes ephemeral forms and the publishers who are finding ways to realize those works, put them in the world, and build an audience for them.

There is the sheer thrill and pleasure of touching, looking and reading books that do not obey the general conventions of what a book should be. This is not the familiar experience of walking into a bookstore.… The fact that all of these presses are defying the consistent death-of-the-book knells and making space for beautiful works taking the shape of a book … is testament to either a collective delusion or a real belief in ‘the book’ as a point of connection, as a lasting means of expression.

—Lisa Pearson, Siglio publisher, quoted in the Los Angeles Times about the 1st Annual Los Angeles Art Book Fair

The venerable and radical Printed Matter (how many institutions can be described like that?) presents the 2nd annual Los Angeles Art Book Fair, January 30 – February 2, 2014 at MOCA’s Geffen Contemporary. The fair is free, open to the public and absolutely not to be missed. Be prepared to be overwhelmed, awed, and even ecstatic.

This year—along with 259 other indie publishers, artists, antiquarians, and arts organizations from Southern California, across the U.S. and around the globe—Siglio will be happily participating! Find us in ROOM K at TABLE #25.

We’re featuring sneak previews of two upcoming releases by RAY JOHNSON: a reprint of his seminal 1965 artist’s book The Paper Snake and a collection of previously unpublished writings called Not Nothing (both officially out late spring/early summer). We’ll also have our newest limited edition “Jess: Finds of the Fortnight,” along with other available artist multiples, recent beloved titles (in no longer available first edition copies) such as Karen Green’s Bough Down and Sophie Calle’s The Address Book as well as signed first edition copies of the cult favorite Tantra Song.

Of course, all Siglio books will be 25% off and every purchase will get the latest edition of Siglio Ephemera (#7).
